Suspect arrested after Cross River driver mistakenly delivered wrong package containing guns to man expecting foodstuff from his mother

A suspected gunrunner has been arrested after a driver mistakenly delivered a wrong package to a man expecting foodstuff.

Aji Augustine was expecting to take delivery of foodstuff sent by his mother in Cross River State to him in Lagos State.

On April 23, Aji went to a park in Ibeju Lekki to receive the food items from a driver.

The driver mistakenly gave him a package that was meant to be delivered to someone else.

When Aji opened the package, he saw 7 guns in it.

He immediately rushed to the nearest police station to report and handed over the guns to policemen for investigation.

A thorough investigation led to the arrest of one Joseph Ashiwobel, who dispatched the sack from Calabar to Lagos.

The state Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alabi, while addressing journalists on Friday, May 20, said the suspect confessed to the crime during interrogation.

He confessed that he had sold many guns to his customers in Lagos and led policemen to arrest two of his buyers, Rasheed Ogunbade, 39, and Aladeokin Ahmad, 38.
