The buzz about his marriage wasn’t because it was a royal wedding but an unusual one. Unusual in the sense that he was taking two wives almost simultaneously.

It was the first time in a long time that people would hear that a Nigerian monarch was taking more than one wife almost simultaneously. 1. Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi and Mariam Anako

It’s no longer news that Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi has not been lucky in marriage. But it hasn’t stopped him from trying. His September 6 wedding to his new wife, Mariam Anako, has been buzzing all over the media. Olori Mariam, an Egbira woman from Kogi State, was an oil and gas company, administrative worker. The new queen was beautifully dressed in an aso oke piece with gold and silver patterns and regal beads that matched her new status.

She was led into the palace amidst melodious singing and playing of traditional musical instruments after completing traditional rites that officially made her queen of the Ife kingdom. The wedding was attended by the families of the king and the queen. Also in the dance were the chiefs of the kingdom and close aids of the king. This is the king’s fourth wedding after the previous three failed.

Yusuf Buhari and Zahra Bayero was perhaps the most talked about Nigerian royal wedding in 2021. Yusuf is the only son of Nigeria’s current President, Muhammadu Buhari, while Zahra Bayero is the daughter of the Emir of Bichi, Nasir Ado Bayero. The wedding on August 20, 2021, was a high-octane event, with former and incumbent governors, ministers, lawmakers, judges, businessmen, diplomats, relatives, friends, and groups flooding thousands into the ancient city of Kano in their various private jets to attend. It would remain one of the grandest wedding ceremonies Nigeria has ever witnessed.

The Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, also gave away his daughter, Princess Rukayya Bayero to Amir Usman on September 4, 2022. The wedding fatiha lasted for four days according to the custom of the people of Kano. Throughout the duration of the wedding, the bride was adorned in different beautifully styled outfits, which caught the people’s attention. As usual, dignitaries converged on Kano State to attend the grand royal event.


4. Natasha Akpoti and Emmanuel Oritsejolomi Uduaghan

Former Kogi State governorship aspirant under the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Natasha Akpoti, found love again in the arms of a married father of three children, Emmanuel Oritsejolomi Uduaghan, the Alema of Warri Kingdom. The couple got married in a flamboyant ceremony on Saturday, March 5, 2022, at her father’s house in Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi State.

Akpoti was a single mother of three children before she became the second wife of Uduaghan. The wedding was so grand that Vanguard described it as a “roll call of who is who” due to a large number of the political class and celebrities in attendance.

As expected, it was a memorable day in Sokoto State as roads and the airport experienced heavy traffic when members of the political class, traditional rulers, and top government officials made their way to Sultan Bello Jima’at Mosque, the venue of the wedding. A total of 18 aircraft were lined in rows on the airport’s tarmac, drawing a lot of media attention on a special day.

Although the wedding wasn’t as loud as expected, it was still graced by dignitaries, including Vice President Yemi Osinbajo. The royal wedding was held at the residence of the Madakin Kano, where the sum of N1 million was paid as the bride price. Meanwhile, this is the king’s second marriage after his first with Queen Chanel Chin crashed in 2019.

Sadly, the queen announced her separation from the king on December 23, 2021, after three years of marriage that produced a son. The king has since moved on with a new wife, Mariam, as previously listed.
