Real Madrid were 2-0 winners over Chelsea in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final clash at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday evening. 

Karim Benzema put Los Blancos ahead in the 21st minute to sound the alarm bells for the Premier League club with his 20th goal against English clubs.

Things went from bad to worse for Chelsea after Ben Chilwell was sent off for a foul on Rodrygo in the 59th minute.

Substitute Marco Asensio then scored the LaLiga giants’ second goal in the 74th minute to seal the victory.

Chelsea had been underdogs in the encounter following their disastrous local form. They were beaten 1-0 by Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend.

They have now failed to score in four matches.

Napoli had early chances to take the lead, but Khvicha Kvaratskhelia blazed over in the opening minutes of the encounter.

Ismael Bennacer put the Rosonneri ahead in the 40th minute. Brahim Diaz had beaten three Napoli midfielders before finding Rafael Leao, who picked out Bennacer. The Algerian midfielder rifled past Alex Meret, who could not keep the ball out with his outstretched leg.

Napoli had more attempts in the second half, but it was not to be as Mike Maignan produced fantastic saves to deny the Partenopei, who were without talismanic Nigerian striker, Victor Osimhen.

Napoli ended the match with ten men as Andre Zambo Anguissa was red-carded in the 74th minute.
